Obtaining and using uncorrected DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) will void your warranty; it is extremely vital to have the correct type and it’s an important thing to keep in mind. The question is though, how do you keep your warranty intact in regards to DEF?
We thought we’d provide you with a few tips:
- Do not store DEF above 77 degrees Fahrenheit, this will lower its typical 18 month shelf life.
- Do not store DEF in any containers that are not approved, this will also lower the 18 month shelf life.
- Ensure that your DEF fluid always meets the specifications for whatever vehicle it is being used for.
- If you intend on storing your vehicle for long periods of time, make sure that someone is testing the DEF frequently. Dirt, water, dust, and other contaminants can ruin DEF and it will need to be replaced.
